Mike Hurley


Clinical Director, Musculoskeletal

Mike’s research career started in 1988 at University College London. In 1990 he moved to the Physiotherapy Department, King’s College London, completed a PhD in 1992. He was there as Lecturer, Reader and Professor in Physiotherapy until he moved to the School of Rehabilitation Sciences at St George’s University of London in October 2010.

Andrea Carter


Programme Director, Musculoskeletal 

Andrea has worked in NHS management in London for 20 years, including General Management posts at Chelsea and Westminster and Queen Elizabeth Hospitals; and Programme Management roles including reorganisation of South East London Stroke Services. Andrea joined the Health Innovation Network soon after it was formed.

Ambra Caruso


National Programme Manager, ESCAPE-pain

Ambra is the National Programme Manager for ESCAPE-pain and is leading on the spread and implementation of the programme across all 15 AHSNs. Before joining the HIN in July 2016, Ambra worked for 10 years in the voluntary sector in various management roles, including managing a local Healthwatch and a health inclusion project for refugees.

Margaret Connolly


Project Manager, ESCAPE-pain (Sport England strand)

Margaret joined the team in Jan 2018 to project manage the Sport England/ARUK funded rollout of ESCAPE-pain to community settings. She has over twenty years’ experience working in Public Health across Lambeth, Southwark, Lewisham and Greenwich, with a specific focus on health improvement.

Zoe Zambelli


Project Manager, ESCAPE-pain

Zoe is currently working within the ESCAPE-pain project team to implement the programme across the U.K. Zoe previously worked in events management and recruitment before moving into the NHS. She is nearing the end of her Master’s degree in Psychology later this year.

Isabel Rodrigues de Abreu


Project Manager, ESCAPE-pain

Isabel joined the team in December 2017 as Project Manager for the ESCAPE-pain project. Isabel’s most recent post was that of Service Manager for the Simulation services across Guy’s and St Thomas’ hospitals. Isabel comes from a background of Medical Education, and Events Management at the University of London’s Senate House.

Sally Irwin


Project Manager, Joint Pain Advice

Sally joined the team in November 2018 as a Project Manager for the MSK team and is currently working on the Joint Pain Advice Programme. Before joining the HIN she was a project manager for a NHS Health Check Team and has a background in health improvement.
